"Relate, Recognize, and React," are the essential elements of empathy; our ability to relate to other people, recognize what they've been through and the challenges they may face, and finally have a reaction that shows you're genuinely invested in a person’s well-being"
-Me
This idea has floated around my spirit for years; it materialized in the rich experiences I’ve had throughout my life thus far. On a micro-scale, it manifested itself in listening to people and caring enough to let their words impact my thoughts and/or actions. I’m speaking on the experiences with those that I’ve known for years and those I’ve known for minutes…possibly fleeting moments. These are the experiences that influenced my decision to start this blog chronicling my ability to give back an ounce of the blessings the universe has bestowed upon me. I hope to shed light on both the offensive and defensive characteristics of an empathizer. We should all challenge ourselves to fight conflict with caring. I’m no empathy guru. In all honesty, I’m writing this blog so I can hold myself accountable for my ideas. Fortunately, my ideas can be generalized to anyone who can recognize something and simultaneously attach genuine feeling to it, so hopefully readers can also hold themselves accountable for their output of empathy.
Congratulations! We should all hold ourselves accountable for the ideas we often times only verbalize. Can't wait to read your posts.
ReplyDeleteYou said it, C. Being accountable is the hardest part. A blog won't make it happen right away, but it will certainly help push us all in the right direction, that's for sure! I look forward to being inspired by your posts!!!
